Funeral Director

Michael Howell is a Funeral Director and the owner of Schrader-Howell Funeral Home.  He fell in love with funeral service at the age of 17 shortly after beginning a part-time job in a funeral home. He is gratified by helping families through some of the most difficult days of their lives.  He believes that funeral service is more of a ministry than a job or profession.

Mike has been in funeral service for over 54 years.  He graduated from Wayne State Mortuary School in 1971, the same year he became licensed.

Originally from the Bay City area, he has been in the Detroit area since 1970 and in Plymouth since 1991.

Mike is a proud Member of the Michigan Funeral Directors Association and the National Funeral Directors Association.

He is also a proud member of the Plymouth Rotary Club for over 30 years, having served on the Board for a time.

He looks forward to Rotary “Chicken Sunday” when Rotarians cook and serve over 10,000 chicken dinners.  Mike is also a member of the Plymouth Chamber of Commerce and a member of the Plymouth Historical Society and has served as Secretary and Treasurer.  He is the Past President of the Clawson Lions Club, Past President of the Clawson Chamber of Commerce as well as Past President of his church Ushers Club.  Mike served many years on the Board of Directors of the Community Hospice, Westland.  He is also a member of the Green Burial Council.

Mike has been married to Mary Lynch Howell since 1974 and they have been blessed with 2 wonderful daughters.  Their daughter Julie Howell (Mike) Romein is also a Funeral Director and their daughter Molly Howell (Jordan) Weingarten is a former kindergarten teacher.  Mike and Mary find their greatest joy in spending time with their five precious granddaughters.

Jeff is a 1998 graduate of the Wayne State School of Mortuary Science.  When he was a very young boy and had experienced the loss of a family member, he observed the actions and words of the Funeral Directors.   It was in his observation at this very young age he realized just how important funeral service was to his family and to others in the community.  His experience and its impact on him of the Funeral Director’s words, actions and gentleness toward his family and the desire to get them through a very difficult time that ignited Jeff’s interest in funeral service resulting in his career journey toward becoming a Funeral Director.

In 2000, Jeff married his wife, Jessica.  They reside in Plymouth and have two children who attend the Plymouth-Canton Schools.  When he is not working, he enjoys spending time with his family and seeking out new dining experiences at one of the many incredible restaurants in downtown Plymouth.

Jeff’s love for the City of Plymouth and its residents has been the driving force in his involvement in the community, and ultimately has paved the way toward making many new friends.  Today, he and his family continue to volunteer for various local Church and civic events.  For example, Jeff has gained much popularity with the local seniors in the community by preparing a cherished family pancake recipe and providing a special pancake breakfast at the Friendship Station three times a year.  He also has started an annual tradition of preparing a hotdog and chips lunch for the Seniors each year on The Detroit Tiger’s Opening Day in April.  Both of these events have proved to be hugely popular with the Plymouth Seniors and have given each of them an opportunity to talk with Jeff and get to know him and his family.  Many residents are quite familiar with another one of his very own recipes - his “lemonade-shake-ups” at an annual children’s event at Praise Baptist Church and as many as 600-800 participants at Plymouth’s Senior Fest had an opportunity to experience this tangy-sweet lemon drink as well.  Those young and old alike have come to know Jeff and his family in the community.  It is through these relationships and community activities that he has gained not only the friendships, but more importantly, he has gained their trust in him by being called upon to meet with them at what may be the most difficult time in their life.

He is a proud member of the Plymouth Lions Club, The Rotary Club of Plymouth, Past Chairman of The Plymouth Chamber of Commerce, Past Chairman of Plymouth United Way, President of the Plymouth Community council on Aging and Past Board Member of the Plymouth Historical Society.

Jeff is a highly respected member of the community.  His profession of funeral service fulfills an essential duty to the community and to humanity.   He has a great love for the City of Plymouth and its residents.  His connection to the Plymouth community is not only about building personal relationships.  It is about building relationships that matter.  It is about building a community.  His dedication to the Schrader-Howell Funeral Home, the community of Plymouth and funeral service has provided him with the desire to serve others as he would his own family.
