Yvonne Marie "Nonnie" Greenberg

Yvonne Marie "Nonnie" Greenberg (née Shook), age 93, passed away peacefully on July 6, 2026, in Chesterfield Township, Michigan. Born on "Thanksgiving Eve" November 23, 1932, in Detroit, Michigan, she was the second eldest of four children to Clinton P. and Elizabeth F. Shook. Yvonne began her secondary education at St. Francis de Sales High School in Detroit before her family relocated to Baltimore, Maryland. She graduated from Towson Catholic High School in Towson in 1950. Shortly after completing her education, Yvonne embarked on a career as a Bank Teller with Detroit Bank and Trust (later Comerica Bank), where she worked diligently from 1950 until her retirement in 1992. She cherished her time at the bank and formed lasting bonds with both her co-workers and customers.

In 1967, Yvonne met the love of her life, Samuel Sidney "Sid" Greenberg, at the Livonia Ski Club. Their connection blossomed into a lifelong partnership, and they were married on October 10, 1970, at Mt. Hope Congregational Church in Livonia. They later reaffirmed their vows in a Catholic ceremony at St. Kenneth Catholic Church in Plymouth on October 10, 1988. Together, Yvonne and Sid built a life filled with love and shared passions. They settled in Plymouth, Michigan, where they enjoyed the camaraderie of their neighbors and spent weekends cheering for the University of Michigan football team as season ticket holders.

Yvonne was an active member of her community and contributed greatly to organizations she cared about. She served as Treasurer of the Livonia Ski Club from 1970 to 1974 and as President of the Redford Jaycettes from 1972 to 1975. Her leadership and dedication left a lasting impact on those around her.

A talented ceramic artist, Yvonne found joy in creating beautiful works of art that reflected her creativity and skill. She also had a deep love for traveling with Sid by her side, exploring new places together and making cherished memories along the way.

Yvonne is survived by her loving nieces and nephews: Garry (Donna) McCann, Daniel (Linda) McCann, Karen (Barrett) Strong, Jeanine (Robert) Majikas, Michele Tucker, David (Jacqui) Robinson, Diane Hlavacek, Gretchen Wessendorf, and many great-nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Sid; her parents, Clinton P. and Elizabeth F. Shook; her siblings, Louise (William) McCann, Robert (Sharon) Shook, and Sharon (Michael) Robinson; her niece and nephews Denise (Richard) Sledz, Stephen Robinson, and Hugh Tucker and many other dear family members who held special places in her heart.

Yvonne’s warmth and vibrant spirit touched all who knew her. May her memory bring comfort to those who loved her dearly.

A private Memorial Service will be held at a later date to honor Yvonne's remarkable life.
