William Howard Forrester "Rusty"

William Howard Forrester, affectionately known as Rusty, passed away on November 3, 2025, at the age of 76. In Bill’s walk of life he became known by many nicknames. When he was born he had red hair like his grandfather and was affectionately forever known as Rusty. As an adult and professional he went by Bill. His sister-in-law; Shellei, warmly called him, Willum, And, depending on which side of the family, he was known as Uncle Rusty and Uncle Bill to his nieces and nephews. In Viet Nam Bill was assigned the job of carrying and operating the ham radio. This knowledge and experience then carried over into his professional life when he began working in the telecommunications industry- from climbing the towers, building out the networks and ultimately ending his career as a dedicated executive. Bill had an adventurous spirit which was nurtured during his youth, including when he learned to hunt with his uncle Lloyd. Little did he know his hobby taught him to be a sharp shooter that when entering the Army he was placed in Special Services. He was honorably discharged from the service having received a Bronze Star and a Purple Heart, marking another highlight of his life grounded in service and sacrifice

Bill demonstrated an exemplary work ethic, often balancing multiple jobs while pursuing his education. He proudly graduated from the University of Michigan and furthered his studies to acquire an MBA. His thirst for knowledge didn’t stop there; he also attended law school for two years and earned various associate degrees along the way, revealing a deep commitment to education and personal growth. The desire to learn continued in his retirement as he researched his Scottish heritage.

Bill and his beloved wife, Becki, of 38 years enjoyed to be near the water. Together, they would sit and watch the waves and boats coming in to dock at different sites in Michigan, finding peace in the simple pleasures of just spending time together. His passion for golf was prominent in his adult life and something he looked forward to enjoying in his retirement, though his health dictated otherwise. He moved on to another passion, the stock market. Enthusiastically following the markets daily and telling Becki he was watching their money grow. To many, he often seemed serious, but those who really knew him can remember the big laugh and that he loved to play pranks. In heart he was a family man who enjoyed spending time at family gatherings. …

Bill was a loving man whose contributions spanned both his personal and professional life. Bill is survived by his wife, Becki Forrester; his sisters Debbie (Dave) Mroz and Karen (Ken) Oz; nephews Kelly J. Whitman and Mark Mroz; nieces Amelia Lang, Michelle Oz- Laurenzi, and Andrea Mroz, Aunt and Uncle Patti and Johnny Castellanos; Aunt Sharon Guzicki; Additionally his mother-in-law Carolyn Whitman; sisters-in-law Kim Whitman and Shellei (Ed) Whitman-Lang; brothers-in-law Kirk (Donna) Whitman, Kelly W. Whitman and Randy (Lori) Whitman, and Abbey, his beloved dog. Bill is also survived by several cousins that he loved and cherished.

As we remember William Howard Forrester, we celebrate not only his achievements but also his warmth, character, and the knowledge he shared with those around him. His presence will be deeply missed by family and friends alike.

Family and friends are invited to pay their respects during the visitation on November 9, 2025, from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM, followed by a funeral service at 1:00 PM at Schrader-Howell Funeral Home, located at 280 S. Main St., Plymouth, MI 48170. A luncheon to share in his memory will follow the service.
