Thomas F. Moorhead, 73, of the close-knit community of Van Buren Township near Bellevue, Michigan, passed away on November 5, 2026, with his wife Mary Beth by his side.
Tom, born on September 29, 1953, to Frederick and Roberta Moorhead, was a welcome addition, joining his sister Wendy and later another sister, Margie. Tom had a passion for sports and was an exceptionally gifted athlete, excelling in every sport he embraced.
A letter winner in football, baseball, and basketball during his four years at Riverside High School in Dearborn, Michigan, he also excelled academically and graduated with honors in 1971. While in high school, he met the love and light of his life Mary Beth. A beautiful, loving, intelligent woman, the two were inseparable from that point on.
He was heavily recruited nationwide for football and accepted a full scholarship to Eastern Michigan University where he continued his education in business administration. Tom developed an interest in insurance during his college years and began a long and successful career at AAA Michigan followed by experience working as an independent agent for many years before retiring to enjoy “the good life” in 2020.
After marrying in 1975, Tom and Mary enjoyed a loving partnership for over 50 years and have two children, Sean and Caitlyn. Tom was a loving dedicated father to his children, both of them becoming highly independent, compassionate, and loving individuals. The fact that both Sean and Caitlyn are highly successful in their chosen careers as well as building strong families and relationships of their own is a testament to Tom and Mary’s guidance, love, and support over the years. The hole left by Tom is impossible to fill and yet his legacy lives in our hearts.
Tom was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Roberta Moorhead, parents-in-law William and Joan Welsh, and brother-in-law Patrick Welsh. He is survived by his loving wife Mary Beth (nee Welsh), son Sean (Amanda) Moorhead, grandson Bowie, daughter Caitlyn Moorhead, sister Wendy (Christopher) Adam, sister Margie (Michael) Moorhead; siblings-in-law David (Cindy) Welsh, Tony (Betty Jo) Welsh, and Colleen (Kevin) Smyth, and many nieces and nephews. He is remembered by family and friends for his commitment to family, a great sense of humor, and a life well lived.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Tom’s name to St. Jude's. www.stjude.org/donate Contribution envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
