Sue Ellen Hand, age 87 of Livonia peacefully passed away on September 9, 2026.
She was born in Plymouth, Indiana on May 24, 1939 to her parents, the late Kathryn E. (née Emigh) and Joseph A. Felke.
She met her late husband, Richard, at a Culver Military Academy dance and, as the saying goes, “the rest is history.” They both attended Purdue University where she was a Kappa Alpha Theta and Richard was a Kappa Sigma. Their friendship grew into a love story at Purdue via the many Greek events on campus. Richard graduated with an engineering degree. Their love story became the beginning of a lifetime of memories together.
She was a woman of many talents and a wonderfully creative spirit. Having been brought up in the family florist business in Plymouth, she found joy in sewing, card making, crafting, printing, and wallpapering. Her creativity was especially evident at Christmas, when she would begin making her own Christmas cards as early as July. She also had a playful side and enjoyed playing card games – Euchre, Montana, Cribbage, Dominoes and many other games shared with family and friends.
She had a special love for animals and always had a dog by her side. Each year, she would handwrite a letter from Santa to her grandchildren, complete with a poem – a tradition that reflected her imagination and the joy she found in the little things.
Sue Ellen will be deeply missed by her children, daughter Anne Elizabeth “Beth” Gorman of Plymouth, Michigan and son Richard “Scott” Hand of Pensacola, Florida; her grandchildren, Kate, Madeleine, Kennedy, Andrew and Abagayle and her brother Joseph A. Felke, Jr. of Plymouth, Indiana. She also leaves behind many cherished memories with family and friends.
Her creativity, laughter, love of games, and thoughtful Christmas traditions will remain a lasting part of the lives of all who knew and loved her.
