Steven John Maczko, age 74 passed away on November 9, 2025.
He was born on August 26, 1951 in Highland Park, Michigan to his parents, the late Hedwig (née Pieronek) and John Maczko. He is the loving father of two children – Megan Maczko and Steven Maczko. He is deeply loved and will be greatly missed by his siblings, twin brother, Joseph Maczko and John (Judy) Maczko as well as his niece and nephew Marianne Maczko and Joseph (Vanessa) Maczko. He is also survived by his former spouse Sandra who is the mother of his children. He is pre-deceased by his sister, Karen Maczko.
Steve had several hobbies including oil painting, cooking, fishing and was an experienced morel mushroom hunter. He loved to cook and those who actively search for morels in the wild will often know exactly where to find this prized delicacy. They are prized because they are wild-grown and difficult to cultivate. He knew exactly where to find them and luckily for Steve, Michigan is one of the prime spots for morel hunting.
Another of Steve’s favorite pastimes was fishing. It was an excellent way to spend time outdoors whether in Virginia Beach, or at Lake St Helen. Steve never failed to make the holidays extra special, and one of the ways he made the occasions impeccably memorable was through his passion for cooking. Thanksgiving was one of his favorite days of the year, and he had a carefully executed method to ensure perfection when the turkey hit the table. He made the best lasagna east of the Mississippi, and if you were lucky enough, he would gift you a tray made from scratch.
Not only was he an artist in the kitchen, he also loved oil painting. His paintings allowed him to express himself and release his creative influence on the world. He would selflessly gift his paintings to friends and family, and for the chosen few he would even paint your portrait.
Steve was as passionate in his work in automotive manufacturing as he was for his hobbies. He took great pleasure in turning programs around at Ford and Visteon to save jobs while turning profits. His work transforming and streamlining an alternator program in the 1990s is still in use today. He enjoyed that his work took him to live in Virginia Beach and travel the world, completing his career in Swansea, Wales where he turned not only a program around, but hearts and minds as well. The Welsh dismissed him as just another American consultant who didn’t know what he was doing to giving him a proper send-off chanting “Spielberg!” over pints at the local pub.
