Russell Alger Ash, a distinguished engineer in the automotive industry, passed away at the age of 99 on April 14 , 2024, in Plymouth, Michigan. Born on October 20, 1924, in Livonia, Michigan, Russell led a remarkable life filled with love, courage, and dedication. 

As an engineer in the automotive sector, he left a lasting impact on those around him. His commitment to innovation and excellence shone through his endeavors. Russell's expertise for his work earned him respect and admiration from colleagues and peers alike.

Beyond his career accomplishments, Russell was known for his selflessness and unwavering loyalty to his country. He bravely served in the U.S. Navy during World War II, embodying courage and patriotism throughout his military service. 

Following military service, Russell dedicated many years to serving Plymouth where he lived. He served on the Plymouth Township board for 20 years as a Trustee, the building commission and various other committees beginning in 1956 through 1976. During his senior years, Russell was active in the Council on Aging organization.  He also served on the election poll committee for several years.

 Russell was an active member at St. Peter Evangelical Lutheran Church in Plymouth. He sang in the church choir for many years and served on several boards and committees as he was called to do.  Russell assisted in organizing the church’s senior group – the OWLS – both locally and nationally. He helped plan senior trips and also served on the annual OWLS convention committee.

Russell's dedication extended to his family, where he found his greatest joy and fulfillment. He will be deeply missed by his surviving family members: Greg (Mary Grace) Ash, Cindy Ash, Nena Obst, and Kevin (Barbara) Ash. He also leaves many grandchildren and great-grandchildren who brought immense happiness to his life. His grandchildren include: Matthew (Vicki) Ash, Adam Ash, Elizabeth (Mark) Biro, Jessica Ash, Rebecca (Simon) Murphy, Ashley (Jesse) Legault, Chad Button, Alicia Ash and Ethan Ash. His great grandchildren are Kimberlin Ash, Kaitlyn Biro, Brett Whalen, Noah Biro, Christopher Ash, Isabella Biro, Rhythm Legault, Colette Hayball, Carter, Scottie Grace, and Minnie Murphy as well as two great great granddaughters Alexandria and Cora. 

Russell is preceded in death by his wife of 64 years Virginia and his son Stephen.

Russell Alger Ash was a devoted family man, a respected professional, and a true American hero whose spirit will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.

Visitation services to honor Russell's memory will be held on Wednesday,  April 17th at Schrader-Howell Funeral Home in Plymouth from 2:00 PM to 8:00 PM. Additional visitation will take place on Thursday,  April 18th at St. Peter Evangelical Lutheran Church in Plymouth from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM followed by a Funeral Service at the same location at 11:00 AM. The final farewell will occur at Riverside Cemetery in Plymouth with a Graveside Service starting at 12:00 PM.
