Roy Richard Pilkington, Sr.

November 17, 1927 — March 13, 2024

Roy Richard Pilkington, Sr.

Loving husband of Helen, who predeceased Roy in 2000 and proud father of Roy (Debbie) Pilkington, Cathy Youngs, Carl Pilkington (deceased), Albert Pilkington (deceased), Lisa (Mark) Wolfe and Dr. James Pilkington.  Roy loved his 9 grandchildren and their spouses, 5 great grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren very much.

A native of Michigan, Roy was a Veteran that served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War.  After serving in the miliary, he attended and graduated from Michigan State University with a B.S. Degree in Electrical Engineering.  He then became an engineer at Ford Motor Co. and was lovingly known as “Mr. Speed Control”.  He was a product design engineer for 32 years and made many great friends that he was able to stay in touch with long after retirement.

After retiring from Ford Motor Co., he began volunteering at the Plymouth Historical Museum and made many cherished friendships, and the projects he worked on are still on display today.

An avid Detroit Tigers fan, he watched just about every game on TV and could tell you the scores and details about his favorite players.  We are sure he will be watching over his Tigers from heaven.

Reading books, doing puzzles every day in the newspaper and playing games with his family were some of his favorite things to do.  Roy was the “King of Cribbage”; this is a game that he played countless times and was a rival that his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren loved to attempt to beat.

Our family is so grateful for the 96 years that he was on this earth and for being such a wonderful father and a good man.   We loved him very much and will miss him forever.

In lieu of flowers or gifts to the family, we are requesting that donations be made to The Plymouth Historical Museum, 155 S. Main Street, Plymouth, Michigan  48170.
