Ronald Stephen Longhofer, a distinguished scholar, music aficionado, and seasoned world traveler, passed away peacefully on March 11, 2026, at his home in Plymouth, Michigan. Born on August 30, 1946, in Junction City, Kansas, Ron lived a life marked by achievement, service, and the pursuit of knowledge. Most importantly, Ron lived a life filled with love and laughter.
Ron is survived by his beloved wife of 30 years, Norma, whose partnership provided love, warmth, support and adventure throughout their time together. He is also lovingly remembered by his daughters Stefanie (Keith) Meisel, Megan Carroll and Alyson (Andrew) Pryor. His legacy continues through his grandchildren, Grace (John Blake) MacManamy, Jeremiah “Jack” Pryor, Findlay Pryor, Claire Pryor, Fiona Pryor, and Harden Pryor, all of whom brought great joy and pride to his life.
Ron, Norma and family also mourn the loss of grandson Simon Trimble, whose memory remains a cherished part of their hearts. Ron and Simon have now reunited and are playing piano duets in the sky.
Ron was a man of exceptional intellect and drive, earning three degrees from the University of Michigan – spanning Music, Law and Business Administration – a testament to his diverse talents and insatiable curiosity. His academic pursuits enabled him to leave a lasting impact in multiple fields and were a source of pride throughout his life.
In addition to his academic achievements, Ron served honorably in the United States Army, attending the Defense Language Institute. His military service reflected his commitment to his country and added a whole new skill set as he became fluent in German. While serving in Germany as a translator for several years, Ron developed a life-long love of the German language.
A true citizen of the world, Ron embraced his passion for travel wholeheartedly. Ron and Norma’s adventures as world travelers enriched his perspective and brought joy and stories to share with all who knew him. He approached life with a spirit of exploration and an open heart. Ron’s travels, while too numerous to list, include climbing the Great Wall of China, camel trekking across India, sailing the Mekong River, and multiple trips to the continent of Africa, not counting over 30 cruise adventures. Ron and Norma also enjoyed extended trips to Scotland where they spent time in their cozy cottage while exploring every inch of the beautiful Scottish countryside.
Ron will be deeply missed and his sense of humor never forgotten.
