Raymond D. Cather

June 22, 1926 — June 18, 2010

Born in Detroit on June 22, 1926 the son of Wilford G. and Alva M. (Powell) Cather. He is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Myrtle A.(Place)Cather. Beloved father of Linda(Harry)McMullen, Cheryl(Dave)Reeves and Randy(Belinda)Cather. Loving grandfather of 8, great grandfather of 12 with 1 great great grandchild on the way. He served in the United States Navy during World War II aboard the destroyer USS Ammen during the Okinawa campaign and the occupation of Japan. He received a Purple Heart for wounds received during a Japanese kamikaze attack on his ship. He retired from Ford Motor in 1988 and had worked there as a machine setter. He was active in the Livonia Senior Citizens and his church, Newburg United Methodist Church in Livonia. He also loved to work with stained glass. Visitation will be held on Sunday from 3pm - 8pm and Monday from 2pm - 8pm at the Schrader-Howell Funeral Home, 280 South Main Street, Plymouth. Visitation will continue on Tuesday from 10am until time of funeral service at 11 am from Newburg United Methodist Church, 36500 Ann Arbor Trail, Livonia. Contributions are suggested either to the church of Heartland Hospice.
