Phil Pursell passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on May 30, 2026.

Born on January 23, 1961, in Wyandotte, Michigan, Phil’s life was marked by dedication, service, and an unwavering commitment to those he loved. Phil was preceded in death by his loving parents, Congressmen Carl D. and Peggy Pursell.

Phil was the proud owner of Main Street Auto Wash of Plymouth from 1991-2017, he passed on his legacy to his Daugher Sarah and Son-inlaw Joe. Phil was also a man committed to public service, proudly serving as a City Commissoner from 2001-2007 and as Mayor of the City of Plymouth from 2007 to 2009—a role in which he made a lasting impact on the city and its residents.

Phil’s legacy is carried forward by his loving wife, Paula, who stood by his side through all seasons of life. He was a proud father to three beloved children: Kim Reiher (Tim), Sami Werman (James), and Sarah Maltese (Joe), each of whom holds his memory close. His greatest role in life was “Papa Phil” to Eleanor Maltese, Annabelle Werman, Paige Reiher, Noah Reiher, Hailey Perez (Cameron), Anthony Robinson, and Jack Robinson who brought light and laughter into his world. Phil was also a dear brother to Mark Pursell (Barb) and Kathy Martin (Brad). Loving Uncle to many nieces and nephews - with whom he shared a lifetime of memories and laugher with.

Visitation of Phil Pursell’s life will be held on Sunday, June 7, 2026, from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., at the Schrader-Howell Funeral Home located at 280 S. Main St., Plymouth, Michigan. Friends, family, and members of the community are invited to join in honoring a life well lived, remembering a man whose contributions touched many and whose spirit will continue to inspire.

Those who wish to honor the memory of Phil are invited to consider a contribution to VFW Post 6695, 1426 South Mill Street, Plymouth, MI 48170. Contribution envelopes will be available at the Funeral Home.

Phil Pursell’s life was a testament to hard work, leadership, and above all, love. His departure leaves a profound void, but his legacy will continue to guide and inspire all who knew him. He will be deeply missed, fondly remembered, and forever honored. “Steady as she Goes”.
