Mike passed suddenly at home at the age of 58, on Sunday, June 7, 2026. He was born on June 16, 1967 in Ann Arbor, Michigan.
Mike is survived by his parents Robert and Barbara Runstrom, his son Marcus Runstrom, his brother Jamie Runstrom (Tonya), his sister Lisa Crawford (Tim), along with his Nephews and Nieces. Robert Runstrom (Brittany), Rachael Hammond (Chris), Joshua Crawford, Tyler Crawford along with his great-niece and nephews, Miyah, Christopher and Joseph.
Mike grew up in Plymouth and was a graduate of Canton High School in 1985.
After graduation, he enlisted in the Army and was stationed in Germany. Mike ended his obligation and received his honorable discharge in 1990.
Mike then took on a career as a Chef and continued in the culinary field for many years. Mike always enjoyed a good steak and loved cooking for family and friends.
Mike started a part-time position with Plymouth- Canton Schools in 1999 and continued on building his career being promoted to Plant Engineer in 2002. Mike worked in various buildings, Farrand Elementary, Dodson Elementary and then his final location, Salem High School. Mike was highly spoke of by all of his colleagues and known for his dedication and unwavering work ethic. You could always expect a good morning with a big smile.
Mike enjoyed golfing and taking trips with his father, brother and friends to Oscoda, Michigan.
Mike had a love for cats and rescued many. His last one is named "Hazel" and she will also deeply miss him.
Mike was a Star Wars fan and was known to dress as Darth Vader for Halloween and also for the graduation at East Middle School. One year, the Band Director taught the students to play "The Imperial March", and Mike came out in full Darth attire to participate in the performance.
Mike will be remembered by his family and friends as being the one you could always count on to help out in any situation. He will be remembered for his comic personality and one who truly enjoyed his life.
All who knew him loved him.
Friends may visit the Schrader-Howell Funeral Home, 280 South Main Street, Plymouth, Michigan on Friday, June 12, 2026 from 2:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M.
Michael will be laid to rest with Military Honors at Great Lakes National Cemetery in Holly, Michigan.
