It is with deep sadness that we announce that Meera Kannan, age 75, passed away peacefully on January 19, 2026, in Livonia, Michigan, USA surrounded by her loved ones.
Meera was born on July 25, 1950, in Viluppuram, Tamil Nadu, India to her parents, the late Oormila Baliah and Baliah Subramaniam. Meera is the beloved and devoted wife of late Kannan Govindarajulu; loving mother of two children – Jaisankar (Mangalapriya) Kannan and Hemamalini (Raju) Vijjappu, and proud grandmother of four grandchildren – Harish Jaisankar, Oviya Jaisankar, Siddharth Gupta Vijjappu Parvatheeswara, and Danush Gupta Vijjappu Kannan.
Meera was the heart of our home, a person whose love was expressed through her cooking and her care for others. No matter the day or the hour, she was always ready to take care of everyone around her. She never made just one dish, she made a table full, each meal prepared with love and warmth. Her food was unlike anything else; its taste can never truly be matched, because it carried her love in every bite. And her hugs felt like the whole world coming together with unconditional love.
For the past 17 months in Michigan, Meera was an active member of her community. Attending various volunteering and cultural events, her warmth and contagious smile lifted the hearts of everyone around her. Meera will be deeply missed by all who knew her for her constant joy and love and will live on in the hearts of those she touched.
May Meera rest in peace, knowing that she spread smiles at every moment and brightened the days of those who surrounded her.
