Mary Ellen MacRae, a beloved mother and devoted grandmother, passed away on May 14, 2025, at the age of 82. Born on June 18, 1943, in Detroit, Mary served her community as a teacher for over 30 years. Her commitment to teaching was evident in her pursuit of a Master’s degree in education, which showcased her dedication and love of learning.
A woman of deep faith, Mary was revered as a devout follower of Jesus. Her life was characterized by her generosity and welcoming spirit, making her a cherished figure to those who loved her. Those who knew her often describe her as a gentle, soft-spoken individual, always ready to pray for those in need. Her humility and faith were a source of inspiration. She naturally radiated goodwill and kindness to everyone she encountered.
Outside of her professional life, Mary was fond of old movies and getting to know her community. Nothing brought her more joy than spending time with her adored grandchildren—Emma, Sophie, and Leala —who were the light of her life. Mary’s role as a grandmother was one she treasured deeply, sharing her love and gentle spirit with every moment spent with them.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents, Floyd and Lillian McLean. She is survived by her daughter, Kathryn (Bradley) Jackson, along with her three grandchildren. Mary Ellen MacRae will be remembered for the profound impact she had on the lives of those she loved and the community she served. Her legacy of kindness and faith will continue to inspire all who had the privilege of knowing her.
Rather than sending flowers, Mary’s family kindly asks that time be spent with someone in need of companionship or a friendly visit.
