Margaret Papa

September 9, 1931 — December 10, 2019

Margaret Papa, age 88 of Canton passed away on December 10, 2019.

Margaret was born in Detroit on September 9, 1931 to her parents Irvine and Katherine (nee Rapp) Wilkie. She is the beloved wife of the late Peter Papa who passed away on February 1, 2015. Peter and Margaret were blessed with ten children - Marise (Dennis) Hussey, Katherine (Robert) Cullen, Mary Margaret (Henry) Bahrou, Peter (Sally) Papa, George (Maureen) Papa, Therese (Leo) Mulholland, Christopher (Sue) Papa, Jeanine (Jeff) McDuff, Matthew (Life Partner-Andrew Blatter) Papa and, Leslie (John) Miles. Margaret was the proud grandmother of 26 grandchildren, 37 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great grandchild and two more on the way to be born into Margaret’s large and loving family.

She is deeply loved and will be greatly missed by her siblings, JoAnne (Wilkie) Mongrain (William) and Richard Wilkie, sister-in-law Louise Wilkie and brother-in-law William Mongrain.

She is pre-deceased by her grandson, Tony McDuff, and siblings, Catherine (Wilkie) Mudd (Frank), Robert Wilkie (Gertrude), Mildred (Wilkie) Bednark (Vernon), Norma (Wilkie) Miller (Paul), Genevieve (Wilkie) James (Forrest), David Wilkie and, Elizabeth (Wilkie) Theisen (Robert).

We all have a creative side to us and for Margaret, it was sewing and quilting. She was an excellent seamstress. She gained the simple satisfaction of completing a garment or project that she could be proud of and say, “I made it.” Also, she was an avid quilter. She made complicated quilts and simple quilts, large ones and small ones. She enjoyed choosing the colors and fabric textures and the entire creative process gave her joy and fulfillment. There is a connection between the quilter and the quilt, and when that quilt was given by Margaret as a beautiful, hand-made gift to a family member or friend, they most likely felt that special connection they had to her when receiving a quilt she made especially for them.
