Leonard Swartz

Leonard Swartz, age 77 of South Lyon, Michigan passed away on June 10, 2026. He was born on May 19th,1949 in Detroit, Michigan to his parents, the late Kenneth Henry Swartz and Sylvia (Alan) Swartz.

He is the beloved and devoted husband of Michele (Watterson) Swartz of 51 years. They were married August 17, 1974. Leonard is the loving father of two children – Erin (Todd) Straub and Karen (Andrew) Barth; proud grandfather to Makayla Straub, Damien Straub, Owen Straub and Olivia Barth. He will be missed by father in-law Kenneth Watterson. He is deeply loved and will be greatly missed by his sister and brother – Sylvia (Rick) Roldan and Mike (Sheri) Swartz. He will be missed by brother and sister in-law John and Tootie Watterson along with nephews Jessie(Eddi), Chris(Xenia) and great niece Sadie Watterson. Also missed by niece and nephew Jason(Ansley)Roldan and Tammy(Jamie)Pine. Great niece and nephews Raelynn, Hazel Jane, and RJ.

A proud United States Army veteran, Leonard proudly and honorably served his country during the Vietnam War. He carried the values of dedication, courage, and loyalty throughout his life, earning the respect and admiration of all who knew him.

An athlete at heart, Leonard had a lifelong passion for hockey. He continued playing the game he loved well into his seventies and shared his knowledge and enthusiasm as a hockey coach for many years. Even after decades on the ice, remained devoted to mentoring his granddaughter Olivia and her teammates, coaching until illness forced him to step away just a year ago. He also dedicated many years to coaching both of his daughters youth soccer teams.

When he wasn’t at the rink or on the soccer field, Leonard could often be found on the golf course, enjoying a round with friends and family. He also treasured the freedom of the of the open road on his motorcycle. Whether cruising scenic highways or setting out on new adventures, riding was one of his greatest pleasures. His love of motorcycles reflected his adventurous spirit and enthusiasm for life. He loved life on the water, spending days boating, riding jet skis and cruising the open road embracing every opportunity for adventure and fun.

Above all, Leonard will be remembered for his generous spirit, his love of sports, his commitment to helping others, and the friendships he built throughout his life. Whether serving his country, coaching a team, enjoying a day on the golf course, or making memories on the water, he lived with energy, determination and a deep appreciation for the people around him.

His legacy of service, sportsmanship, mentorship, and love will continue to inspire all who were fortunate enough to know him.

Friends may visit the Schrader-Howell Funeral Home, 280 South Main Street, Plymouth, Michigan on Sunday, June 14, 2026 from 2:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M.  Visitation will continue on Monday, June 15, 2026 from 10 A.M. until, the time of the Funeral Service beginning at 11:00 A.M. at the Funeral Home.
