Janet L. Sabo

Janet L. Sabo, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and dedicated registered nurse, died peacefully in her home, at the age of 76 on July 7, 2024, in Plymouth, Michigan. She was born on March 25, 1948, in Toronto Canada to her parents the late Richard and Jean (Anderson) Macpherson.

Janet led a life full of love and humor, and was guided by her passion for caring for others. She shared 54 years of marriage with her devoted husband Joseph Sabo, whom she met while attending Henry Ford Community College. They had a class together and it was love at first sight. Their life together was filled with travel, family, friends, and their two daughters, Amy (Mark) Cress and the late Sara Sabo.

Janet’s 35-year nursing career was focused on Labor and Delivery. She began her career as a staff nurse, providing skilled and compassionate care for her patients, and assisting with the delivery of thousands of babies. In 1990, she completed her Bachelor of Science in Nursing with honors at Madonna University, and became a Clinical Nurse Manager at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital in Ann Arbor. She went on to lead the opening of the high risk obstetrics unit at the St. John Hospital Family Birth Center in Detroit, and the Birthing Center and Women’s Center at St. Mary Mercy Hospital in Livonia. She ended her nursing career as an educator, leading the labor and delivery clinical rotations for Eastern Michigan and Henry Ford nursing students.

Janet adored her grandchildren, Eva and Nathan Cress, and considered being a grandmother one of the most rewarding roles of her life.

A Celebration of Life service will be held on Thursday, July 11, 2024, at St. John's Episcopal Church, 574 S. Sheldon, Plymouth, Michigan. The service will begin at 11:00 AM to honor and remember the remarkable life lived by Janet L. Sabo.
