Janet L. Ormsby

Janet L. Ormsby, a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and sister, passed away on September 15, 2025, in Novi, Michigan, at the age of 80. She was born on June 20, 1945, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and her life reflected the deep love and care she had for her family and friends.

Janet devoted herself to being a homemaker, a role she cherished profoundly. Her exceptional skills in the kitchen made her a beloved figure among family and friends. Known for her delightful cooking, her grape leaves became a specialty that her children often sought to replicate in their own homes. Janet’s culinary talents were so valued that she was often asked to prepare meals even when she wasn't hosting events, highlighting her reputation as an extraordinary cook.

In addition to her culinary skills, Janet was a skilled seamstress, crafting beautiful bridesmaid dresses, and she enjoyed knitting. These talents showcased her creativity and ability to nurture those around her.

Family was the center of Janet’s life. She was a dedicated caretaker and a good listener, always ready to support her loved ones as a sounding board between her children and their father. Her attentive nature created a warm and loving home where her family thrived.

Janet shared many cherished memories with her beloved husband, David G. Ormsby, who predeceased her. They enjoyed quality time together, particularly traveling up north to their condo in Harbor Springs, where they created lasting memories.

She is survived by her beloved children, David (Nancy) Ormsby, John (Camille) Ormsby, and Deana (Mike) Harb, as well as her treasured grandchildren, Michael, David, Ava, William, Kennedy, and Scarlett. Also mourning her loss is her loving brother, John (Diane) Khalil.

The community is invited to honor Janet’s memory at a visitation on Sunday, September 21, 2025, from 2:00 PM to 7:00 PM, with a Rosary that will begin at 6:00 PM, at Schrader-Howell Funeral Home, 280 South Main Street, Plymouth, Michigan. A funeral service will be held on Monday, September 22, 2025, at 11:00 AM at St. Edith Catholic Church, 15089 Newburgh Road, Livonia, Michigan, with final prayers concluding at 12:00 PM. Janet will be in state from 10:30 A.M. until the start of the Funeral Mass at 11:00 A.M.  There will be a luncheon to follow, at Cantoro’s Italian Market at 15550 N. Haggerty Rd, Plymouth, Mi. 48170.
