James K. Harkins

James K. Harkins, a beloved husband, dad, son, and friend, passed away on December 24th, 2023. Born on September 16th, 1971 in Farmington Hills, MI to his loving parents John and Kathy. James led a remarkable life that touched the hearts of many. 

James' true source of joy came from his family. He shared 27 beautiful years of marriage with his loving wife Amy. Together they created a nurturing home filled with love and laughter. James was a devoted father to their four children: Olivia (Fiancé Jacob Schumaker) Harkins, Abigael Harkins, Ethan Harkins, and Logan Harkins. His children were the center of his universe, and he took great pride in supporting them in their endeavors.

James is survived by his siblings Ian (Michelle) Harkins and Robert (Dawn) Harkins. Additionally survived by brother-in-law Todd (Ellen) Hoyer, and in-laws Doug and Sharron Hoyer, who also played an important role in James' life. Their support and close-knit bond nurtured a strong family dynamic, which James cherished deeply.

James will also be remembered by his numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins who held a special place in his heart. He valued these relationships greatly and cherished every moment spent with them.

James graduated from Detroit Catholic Central in 1989 and went on to pursue higher education at the University of Michigan, where he earned his Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering. For 27 years, he took his passion of engineering and built his career at DENSO International America INC. His commitment to learning was evident throughout his life, and he constantly sought to expand his knowledge and expertise.

One of James' proudest accomplishments was serving as the President of Canton West DCFC. His dedication and leadership skills were instrumental in shaping the club's success, leaving an indelible mark on the local soccer community. James had an unwavering passion for soccer and was known for his infectious enthusiasm both on and off the field.

Beyond his involvement in soccer, James had a deep love for golf and embraced it as a way to relax and connect with friends.

James K. Harkins was a man of integrity, passion, and love. His presence brightened the lives of those around him, and his warm smile will be forever etched in our memories. He will be missed dearly but never forgotten.

A visitation service to honor James' life will be held on December 28th at 2:00Pm to 8:00 PM at Schrader-Howell Funeral Home in Plymouth, MI.

In memory of James contributions may be made to the National Kidney Foundation in Ann Arbor, MI.
