James W. Duty

James W. Duty, age 85 of Salem Township passed away on November 14th, 2023.

James was born on April 24th, 1938 in Ann Arbor, Michigan. The son of Velma Jean and Edward L. Duty. James was a beloved and devoted husband to Rosalie Duty until the day she passed on February 10th, 2015. He was the loving father of James Duty II, Michael Duty, Larry (the late Theresa) Duty and Angela (David) Holmes; proud grandfather of nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. He is deeply loved and will be greatly missed by his sister and brother-in-law Ramona and Jim Carter.

For most of his career, James was a truck driver. He enjoyed the traveling that came with the job, a front row seat to all the world in front of him had to offer. He was able to manage his day with great success. As a truck driver, every day was a different day of experiences to different destinations under all kinds of weather conditions. He loved meeting new people every day and was able to connect with them regularly, loving his job as a truck driver.

In retirement, He loved being a Florida “snow bird’’ with his companion Carol Erb, escaping from Michigan winters to be with his friends for fun times in the Sunshine State. He could rise in the morning without an alarm clock. Enjoying every morning with a cup of coffee, in the warmth from the morning sunshine. James was an avid reader, and always enjoyed a good western book.

Above all else in life, family was the most important to him. He loved being with his family and was so proud of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. James enjoyed hearing their stories and was a great listener. He had a unique relationship with each and every one of them. His unwavering support of them in all of their endeavors showed each of them what a special relationship he had with them and how important each of them were to him. James had a great sense of humor that was passed down throughout his family.
