Irene Loretta Gladish, age 99, died peacefully in her home with her family. Irene was preceded in death by her loving husband David. Irene is survived by her children, Maurine (Bill)Leonard, Jacqueline Ryskamp, David (Nancy)Gladish, Pamela (Scott) Egbert, Gail (Lynn)Walls, and Yvonne (Howard) Alaniva. She was the proud grandmother and great-grandmother of seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Irene was born in Youngstown, Ohio and was very proud to call that her home. She graduated high school at sixteen and continued her education in nursing at Youngstown College. Irene later worked for the mayor of Youngstown until she met her beloved David and moved to Detroit. She worked as a secretary in the automobile industry until she started her family. Irene was a devoted mother, keeping involved in her children’s lives not only as a loving parent but also as PTA president, Girl Scout leader, band president and so much more. Irene later went back to work at Garden City Osteopathic Hospital in the surgical department. After retirement, Irene and David travelled the world and spent time with their family and many, many friends.
Irene was a well-respected member of the church community. She sang in the choir for many years and often escorted the nuns to their engagements.
Irene was loved by all who met her. She went out of her way to help others. There was never a time that she didn’t have a smile on her face and a kind word to offer. Irene was a blessing to all who met her. She will be sorely missed and will never be forgotten.
Friends may visit on Friday, March 22, 2024 from 9:00 A.M. until the start of the Funeral Mass at 11:00 A.M. at St. Augustine Catholic Church, 6481 Faussett Road, Howell, Michigan.
