Iona Ruth Zvosec

Iona Ruth Zvosec (née Grell) died peacefully on September 21st. She was born in Lorain, Ohio on December 2, 1932.

Iona graduated 2nd in the Class of 1951 at Clearview High School. She then graduated from the City Hospital School of Nursing in Cleveland in 1954. Most of her nursing career was at the former St. Joseph’s Hospital in Lorain where she was particularly valued for her ability to work almost every department of the hospital.

The caring nature she brought to nursing extended to her home life. Her diligent focus on the health and nutrition of her family was demonstrated both by the large and wholesome meals she prepared and by the many homegrown vegetables and fruits she canned and preserved each year. She had a love of learning and appreciated many types of music, attending numerous musicals and classical concerts later in life.

Iona was a faithful member of the former St. Stanislaus Church in Lorain and later of St. Vincent de Paul in Elyria.

She is survived by her children, Karen Zvosec of Columbus, Ohio; Richard T. (Colleen) Zvosec of Plymouth, Michigan; Marcia (David) Fahrenholz of Delaware, Ohio; and Theodore Zvosec of Brighton, Michigan, as well as eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Preceding her in death was her husband of 62 years Richard R. Zvosec, her parents August and Celia M. Grell (nee Casper), and her siblings Virginia Feneck, Alvira Korcuska, and Glenn Grell.

Respecting her wishes, her body was cremated and a Mass of Christian Burial will be held on October 2nd at 10:30 am at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in Elyria, Ohio. Interment of ashes will be at Calvary Cemetery at a later date.
