Dr. Heidi C. Mier, D.V.M. was a dedicated veterinarian and passionate advocate for holistic veterinary medicine. She passed away on February 4, 2024. Heidi was born on May 23, 1962, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Her unwavering commitment to improving the well-being of animals through her extensive knowledge and expertise will be missed by her family, friends, colleagues, and the countless lives she touched throughout her remarkable career.

Heidi's lifelong passion for veterinary medicine led her to great achievements academically and professionally. She earned a Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from the prestigious University of Wisconsin-Madison in 1988. She was then accepted to a one year internship program at Cornell University, where she further enhanced her small animal veterinary skills. She moved to Michigan in 1990 where she practiced traditional small animal veterinary medicine for several years. Recognizing the potential of holistic practices to augment traditional veterinary care, Heidi later completed an internship in Small Animal and Equine Acupuncture through the Chi Institute. Additionally, she pursued coursework for Chinese Herbal Certification as well as for Food Therapy and Tui-na, or Chinese Medical Manipulation.

Throughout her career, Heidi held memberships in various esteemed organizations. She was an active member of the Chi Institute of Chinese Medicine, American Veterinary Medical Association, American Holistic Veterinary Medical Association, and International Veterinary Acupuncture Society. These affiliations allowed Heidi to stay at the forefront of advancements in veterinary medicine while also forming connections with like-minded professionals.

Heidi's dedication to providing comprehensive care extended beyond her professional commitments to family. She leaves behind her brother, Erich Mier in Milwaukee, Wisconsin and her daughter, Megan Brandemuehl in Denver, Colorado.

Beyond her work and family life, Heidi was deeply passionate about her many pets and her love for horseback riding and the equine community.  Heidi found solace in traveling and exploring new places. Her curious spirit took her on countless adventures where she could appreciate the beauty of nature firsthand across numerous continents and many memorable excursions with her daughter Megan. She enjoyed hiking which offered her opportunity to unwind and experience tranquility of the wilderness.

Dr. Heidi Christine Mier leaves behind a unique legacy that will continue to inspire and shape the field of veterinary medicine. Her dedication, vast knowledge, and compassionate nature touched the lives of both animals and humans alike. As we mourn her loss, we also celebrate the extraordinary achievements of her life and the impact she had on countless beings.
