Gloria Delores Stopp, of Plymouth, MI, beloved wife, mother, grand-mother and
aunt passed away on 1/1/2022 at the age of 94. Gloria spent most of her
adult life in Roseville, MI before relocating to Plymouth, MI to be closer to
her only child and daughter.
Born April 14,1927 in Detroit, MI to Ella (Rose) and Edward Francis Roussin,
the 6th of seven siblings, she was raised mostly by her mother who was widowed
when Gloria was age 4. After her formal education ended early due to the needs
of the family, Gloria worked at Marcus Hamburger Restaurant in Detroit. It was
at Marcus where Gloria would meet Earl, her husband of 60 years. Later Gloria
worked for many years at Bower Roller Bearing, making lifelong friends. Beyond
being a mother and “granny”, her most cherished occupation was working with
children. She worked at local elementary schools as a lunchroom supervisor,
and as a beloved infant “grandma” daycare aide at KinderCare.
A long time member of Immanuel United Methodist Church in Eastpointe, MI., she
taught Sunday school, was an active member of the ladies “circle” and served as
a Methodist Choir Camp counselor over blissful summer weeks for many
consecutive years. She often reported that the experience, songs, and memories
of “Choir Camp” were her all-time favorite. In later years, her volunteer work
was focused at her place of residence where she ran the reoccurring craft class
for the other residents.
Her caring curiosity and gentle spirit is carried on by her daughter Nancy
(Kevin Santer) and grandson Noah. She also leaves behind many beloved nieces
and nephews. She is predeceased by her husband Earl and all of her six
A memorial service is anticipated in the spring at The Great Lakes National
Cemetery in Holly, MI where Earl, a WWII veteran, is interred.
