Frank Anthony Bence
Frank Anthony Bence, of Canton, Michigan, was born on July 30, 1950, in New York, New York, to Frank and Assunta Bence. He passed away peacefully on October 25, 2026, surrounded by his family.
A proud Bronx native, Frank had a personality you couldn’t miss. You never had to wonder what he was thinking because he’d tell you plainly and simply.
A lifelong baseball fan, Frank was especially devoted to the New York Yankees. His first job was selling hot dogs and beer at Yankee Stadium, an experience that revealed his natural gift for selling and connecting with people. During his time at the stadium, he had the unforgettable opportunity to meet baseball legends Mickey Mantle and Joe DiMaggio. Those memories remained among the many stories he enjoyed sharing with family and friends.
After moving to the Detroit area, Frank worked at a furniture store before opening his own stores in Detroit and Westland. He was also well known for his many garage sales, where he made several friends along the way.
Frank loved visiting Walt Disney World and made several trips to enjoy the parks, attractions, and magic of Disney. He was an avid collector who took pleasure in finding, preserving, and sharing items connected to his many interests. He enjoyed Western movies, fishing, and the Jurassic Park films. Frank was also a devoted dog lover who appreciated the companionship, loyalty, and unconditional affection that dogs brought into his life.
Frank and his wife, Debbie, were just one month shy of celebrating 50 years of marriage. Together, they were blessed with three children: son Tony (Krystle) Bence; daughter Kristin (Donn) Prokopius; and daughter Jennifer (Chris) McKellar. He was a proud grandfather to Austin Mack, Caden Bence, Nolen Bence, Skyler McKellar, and Landon Prokopius. He treasured every moment with his children and grandchildren and took great pride in their lives, accomplishments, and happiness.
Frank is also survived by his extended family, including his brothers- and sisters-in-law, nieces, and nephews, who will cherish their memories of him. His legacy will live on through the family he loved so deeply, his many friends, and especially his childhood friend, Eddie Bishop.
A private family service will be held after Thanksgiving.
