Eugene Bragg

June 10, 1927 — May 22, 2021

Eugene Bragg entered his heavenly home on Saturday, May 22, 2021 in Brighton, MI. He was born June 10, 1927 in Bonham, Texas to Houston Benjamin and Mammie Elma (Jones) Bragg. He graduated from Morton High School in Morton, TX in 1945. Following high school, he served in the U.S. Army / Air Force from 1945 – 1947, receiving a WWII Victory Medal. In 1950, Eugene graduated with a bachelor’s degree from Wayland College, which led to his first career as a high school English teacher. Eugene completed his Master of Education from Texas Tech University in 1955. Following his Master’s, Eugene attended Southwestern Seminary where he received a Bachelor of Divinity in 1958. While attending seminary, he met the love of his life, Georgia peach Nanelle Lang, whom he married on June 15, 1963. His highest formal education was his Doctor of Ministry, which he completed at the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in 1977.

Eugene spent his life in service to his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Serving as a pastor at the beginning of his career, then 29 years working for the Baptist State Convention of Michigan. During his tenure, he was most proud of his role as the Director of Language Missions and Black Church Relations. Combined with Nan’s Deaf Ministry, they were a powerful, and mighty force for sharing God’s word.

Eugene is survived by his two children, Brian (Joanne) Bragg of Summit, NJ, and Brenda (David) Bratt of Brighton Michigan; his four grandchildren, Avery (Austin Stewart) Bratt of Saginaw MI, Connor Bratt, and Trevor Bratt of Brighton MI, Norah Bragg of Summit, NJ, and numerous loving nieces, nephews as well as devoted friends.

Eugene was greeted in heaven by his loving wife, Nanelle; his parents; a brother, Paul Bragg; two sisters, Margaret Pruiett and Juanita Eldridge, as well as his twin sister, Kathleen McDaniel.

A blessing to many while here on Earth, his sterling character and commitment to the spirit of Christ, leaves a legacy that will continue long into the future. His leadership and years of faithful ministry enriched the lives of countless people. We are all better for knowing and being loved by Eugene.

"Well done, good and faithful servant.... Enter into the joy of your Lord." Matthew 25:23
