Daniel B. Kentala, a devoted husband, father, and grandfather, left us to be with Jesus on December 31, 2023, at the age of 77. He was born on December 18, 1946, to proud parents John and Josephine Kentala in Detroit, Michigan, where he spent his childhood.
Dan graduated from high school in 1965 and shortly after met the love of his life, Rose, at the Detroit First Church of the Nazarene. They were united in marriage on March 2, 1968, and shared a blissful union for an impressive 55 years.
A dedicated patriot, Dan served in the U.S. Army from 1970 to 1972 in Frankfurt, Germany, as part of the Signal Corps, contributing his skills to the service of his country. Following his military service he graduated from Wayne State University with a degree in business, concentrating on advertising. He embarked on a remarkable 30-year career with the Detroit News, where his creativity shone through in the advertisements he crafted.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Dan had a passion for golf, even making a memorable trip to the Masters with his son-in-law Jeff. In his youth, he was an active participant in baseball, basketball, and diving, even playing on the church softball team later on.
Additionally, Dan was an active member of his church, participating in a work and witness trip to Peru, leading youth groups, and teaching Sunday School classes. His faith and service touched the lives of many.
Dan is survived by his loving wife Rose and their children, Jamie (Jeff) Vos and Julie (Dan) Mykols. His grandchildren, Tyler, Morgan, and Summer brought him immense joy. He also shared a close bond with his brother Jack and sister-in-law Elaine.
