Christine Szary

Christine Szary, age 85, of Plymouth, Michigan, passed away on December 1, 2025. She was born on September 16, 1940, in Detroit, Michigan, to the late Mary (née Krol) and Ignatius Morz.

Christine was the beloved and devoted wife of the late Richard M. Szary, who preceded her in death on May 23, 2025. She was the kindest, most warm hearted, caring, loving mother to Paul Szary, David (Kathryn) Szary, and Jennifer Szary. She was a proud grandmother to Jake Szary, Tim (Lis) Szary, Joey Gingold, and Kevin Zanger. She is also preceded in death by her daughter Anna Marie Zanger and grandson Colin Zanger. Christine will be deeply missed as well by her son-in-law, Matt Zanger and cherished by all who knew her.

Christine grew up in Detroit and attended St. Florian High School, where she met Richard during her junior year. Christine was a cheerleader and Richard played football. Over nearly 70 years together, they shared a lifetime of adventures—traveling all over the globe. North America, Europe, Egypt, Asia, South Africa, from riding camels to rickshaws to enjoying an African safari…truly a world traveler.

They were also passionate golfers, spending many happy days on the courses at Meadowbrook Country Club in Northville, Michigan, and Kensington in Naples, Florida and anywhere they had opportunity to play. In a special family milestone, both Christine and Richard made a hole-in-one at Kensington within a year of each other in 2010 and 2011.

Those who new her, new of her grace, dignity, integrity, patience and love for the simple pleasures.

Above all, Christine cherished time with her family and grandchildren, especially during the annual Szary Olympics “up north,” a tradition she loved dearly.

While she will be profoundly missed, her family finds comfort knowing she is reunited in heaven with Richard, her daughter Anna Marie, grandson Colin, her sister Joanne, and many beloved family and friends.

Friends may gather at the Schrader-Howell Funeral Home, 280 South Main Street, Plymouth, Michigan, on Tuesday, December 9, 2025, from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the Funeral Service at 11:30 a.m. and then a lunch at the Ledger a few doors down.
