Cheryl Dolores Guzik

April 6, 1946 — June 9, 2026

Plymouth

Cheryl Dolores (Shukis) Guzik - Devoted and caring wife, mother, grandmother, and sister died peacefully on June 9, 2026 from complications of lymphoma. Cheryl, also known affectionately as Cher, Mom, and Nanny, received her diagnosis last September and chose to live the remainder of her life at home in Plymouth, Michigan with the care of immediate family, aides, and Michigan Palliative and Hospice Care before relocating to Angela Hospice four days prior to her death. She was 80 years old, having celebrated her milestone birthday with friends and family earlier this year.

Born April 6, 1946, Cheryl was raised in New Kensington, Pennsylvania before relocating to Dearborn, Michigan where she enrolled at Fordson High School for her senior year. She would live the majority of her life in Dearborn - meeting and marrying her husband, Dennis William Guzik, and settling into the Ford Homes Historic District in 1974 to raise their three children alongside longtime neighbors who became lifetime friends. Until her retirement in 2018, Cheryl’s professional life was spent in Dearborn, as well. She provided administrative support for the City of Dearborn, Hallissey Travel Service, and the Dearborn Public Schools and was known for the listening ear she offered to co-workers and students alike. Cheryl remained a fixture on Nona Street for 43 years before moving to Plymouth, MI in 2017 to be closer to family.

Cheryl’s primary life focus was the care and well-being of others - most importantly, her children and grandchildren. She generously provided her time, moral support, meal preparation, zest for cleaning, and would give you the shirt off her back if needed (after she washed and ironed it, of course). An avid baker, Cheryl shared her fan favorite chocolate chip cookies, Belgian delights, and a variety of cakes with family, friends, and service people who all enjoyed the fruits of her baking labor. We will best remember her steadfast caregiving, quick wit, competitive Scrabble spirit, love of morning coffee and evening wine, sense of humor, and the love she generously bestowed.

Cheryl is survived by her daughter and son-in-law Heather and Fletcher Jones, daughter and son-in-law Lauren and Jeremy Christianson, and six treasured grandchildren - Reece, Cameron, and Meg Jones and Brynn, Owen, and Vivian Christianson. She was the cherished sister of Michele Gordon, Judith Wells, Nancy White, and Deanna Lockard. She will also be missed by countless friends, including her pinochle club of 50 plus years, Nona Street and Meadows neighbors, the Dearborn Literary Society book club ladies, and various luncheon and dinner groups.

A funeral mass and reception will be held later this summer. At a later date, Cheryl will be inurned with her husband, Dennis, and son, Grant, who both predeceased her, at Arlington National Cemetery outside of Washington, DC.

Donations may be made in Cheryl’s memory to the American Cancer Society or Angela Hospice.
