Carolyn Abbott Jacobs, age 94, a longtime resident of Plymouth, Michigan, passed away peacefully on April 21, 2026. Carolyn was born in Evanston IL on November 26, 1931, to her parents, the late Elizabeth (nee Gould) and James Fraser Abbott.
Carolyn was the beloved and devoted wife to the late John E Jacobs; loving mother to three children – Jeff (Connie) Jacobs, Nancy Jacobs, Linda Barlow; proud grandmother to Ben (Abby) Jacobs, Chris (Beth) Jacobs, Heather (Garrett) Haas, Scott Barlow, Amanda Barlow and great-grandmother (GG) of six great-grandchildren – Ward, Maisie, Fraser, Clark, Violet and Palmer.
She met her husband, John, while they were students at the University of Michigan, beginning a lifelong partnership with many shared experiences. Together, they were devoted University of Michigan football and basketball fans and loyal season ticket holders for over 50 years, never missing a home football game. They also shared a love of adventure, traveling the world together with the Nomads and creating cherished memories across many destinations.
Plymouth was always her true home, even during the time she spent living in Melbourne, Australia. She carried her love for her hometown wherever she went and returned to it with a deep sense of belonging.
A devoted member of St. John’s Episcopal Church, she found great joy and purpose in her faith community. She was also dedicated to serving others, volunteering her time at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital, supporting the local symphony, and remaining an active member of Alpha Phi at the University of Michigan.
She had a deep love for Star Lake, Wisconsin, her cherished second home for 93 years, where she was surrounded by family and friends. It was a place filled with laughter, tradition, and stories she lovingly shared—many dating back to the 1940s.
She will be remembered for her generous spirit, her commitment to service, and the love she shared with those around her.
A memorial service to celebrate her life will be held at St John’s Episcopal Church In Plymouth on May 16, 2026, at 11am preceded by visitation at 10am. Lunch will be served in the Parish Hall following the service. A celebration of life will take place in Star Lake, WI later in the summer.
