Barbara Ann Cumming

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Barbara Ann Cumming on July 30, 2024 at the age of 77 following a lengthy battle with Alzheimer's disease. 

Barbara was born on May 17, 1947 in South Lyon, Michigan to Donald and Marylou (née Hawley) LaChance. Barbara met the love of her life and husband of 53 years, Paul Cumming while students at the University of Michigan Business School. They were married shortly after graduation. There she earned a Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA).

After raising a family of four, Barbara followed her entrepreneurial spirit and became the owner of an Express Employment Professionals franchise in the staffing industry. Barbara was known for her strong will, unwavering determination and love and caring attitude for others. During her time at Express, she received multiple Circle of Excellence awards.

Barbara and Paul re-energized their marriage by learning to square dance. They belonged to clubs in Ann Arbor and Hartland and traveled to multiple square dance festivals over 15 years. They also enjoyed traveling, particularly to Hawaii, Alaska and Europe. Las Vegas was a frequent destination.

Barbara is survived by her husband Paul; son Donald Cumming; daughters Angela Hutton, Amanda Ring, Kassandra Cumming: daughter-in-law Melea (Hungerford) Cumming; sons-in-law, Christopher Ring and Scott Hutton; grandchildren Sabina and Magnolia Cumming, Colin, Eli and Logan Ring, and Isla Hutton.

Friends may gather at the Schrader-Howell Funeral Home on Sunday, September 1, 2024 from 12:00 P.M. until the time of the Memorial Service beginning at 2:00 P.M.
