Andrea Lynn (Beigler) Knab was born on June 1, 1953 in Detroit, Michigan. She grew up in Oak Park, Michigan and later attended college at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, graduating from the College of Pharmacy in 1978. Andrea met her husband, Dale Knab, soon after and married in 1980. Together they purchased Wiltse’s Community Pharmacy in Plymouth, Michigan and operated it for 42 years. Andrea and Dale remained in Ann Arbor to raise their two children Jeffrey and Heidi and enjoyed the entirety of their marriage there.
Andrea was an active part of her community, volunteering at the Matthaei Botanical Gardens and Nichols Arboretum (peony garden). She was an Election Official for Pittsfield Township assisting in numerous elections. She also participated in ‘No Child without Christmas’ through Canton Goodfellows.
Andrea was an avid gardener, named ‘Reina de los Pimientos’ or Queen of Peppers by Heidi for both the quantity and variety she grew each year in her home garden. She also grew a wide variety of food crops and decorative gourds/pumpkins at the Knab family farm in LaSalle, Michigan. She and Dale spent their nearly 46 years together creating beautiful perennial gardens at their home offering both humans and animals a delightful place to take refuge.
In addition to growing plants Andrea loved to bake, knit, crochet, solve word and number puzzles, walk in nature and travel. She was also a skilled golfer (participating in weekly leagues) where she met some of her closest friends. She and Dale were members of the Washtenaw Country Club for over 30 years. Andrea traveled annually for over 25 years to Key West with her husband, often accompanied by good friends. Andrea, Dale and Heidi headed to northern Michigan each spring to observe the annual bird migration in Mackinac City and Whitefish Point. Each August, Andrea and Heidi spent a week on Lake Michigan, swimming, hiking, biking and exploring the Douglas/Saugatuck area. She also spent time each year in Arizona and Marco Island, Florida making memories with best friends.
Andrea died peacefully on February 12, 2026 in her home, surrounded by her husband Dale, daughter Heidi and dear friend Sue. She loved and was loved by neighbors, friends, family and everyone who had the blessing of knowing her. She will be missed beyond measure. To honor her: plant forget-me-nots or sunflowers, adopt a cat from a local shelter, drink some really good coffee, listen to the Beatles, make a friend in the grocery line, bake something delicious, be kind.
We will celebrate Andrea at the Washtenaw Golf Club (formerly Washtenaw County Club) this June, her birthday month. In lieu of flowers please consider donating to the Matthaei Botanical Gardens or the Peony Garden at Nichols Arboretum.
