Yvonne Jane (McLeod) Aron, of Northville, Michigan, passed away peacefully on April 4, 2021, in Ann Arbor, Michigan with her family at her side. She was 98 years old.
Yvonne was married for 59 years to Edward J. Aron, who preceded her in death in 2002.
Yvonne is survived by her children: Diane A. (James, deceased) Calhoun, Pamela A. (Michael) Marcovitz; her grandchildren, Lindsay A. Calhoun, Leslie (Chris Frey) Calhoun, Jessica L.
Marcovitz, and Jay S. (Jenna Bollard) Marcovitz; and her great-grandchildren, James C. Frey, Declan C. Frey, and Mateo G. Marcovitz. Yvonne is also survived by nieces, nephews and their families.
She is predeceased by her sister, Margaret (Lee) Wright.
Yvonne was born on October 1, 1922, in Big Rapids, Michigan to her parents Colin P. and Helen A. (Knopf) McLeod.
Yvonne graduated from Fordson High School in Dearborn, Michigan and then earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Wayne State University, and a Master’s Degree in Education from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. Following this, she obtained a certification in Social Work. While doing graduate work, she was awarded membership in an academic sorority Pi Lambda Theta, which recognizes outstanding students pursuing careers in education. She worked as a psychiatric social worker for 30 years in the Allen Park Public Schools. She was a member of the American Orthopsychiatric Association, which focuses on the intersection of mental health, social justice, and human rights, and Yvonne enjoyed attending yearly meetings with her colleagues. Yvonne adored spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was an avid University of Michigan fan and for 30 years, Ed and Yvonne looked forward to tailgating with their friends before every home game. She also enjoyed playing weekly bridge games with her friends, who recall that she taught them how to play. Yvonne was a member of the Detroit area U of M Alumnae Association, and served on the committee that helped provide merit and need-based scholarships to undergraduate women. She loved learning about antiques, and was a long-standing member of the Northville Questers.
Yvonne will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
