William John McVittie, Jr.

Passed away at Medilodge of Novi on Tuesday, March 10, 2015 at the age of 93. William was born in Detroit, the son of William J. Sr. and Rhea E. ( nee Rowden ) McVittie. He graduated from Cooley High School and then entered the United States Navy in 1942. In 1946 he married his high school sweetheart, the former Eileen J. Stahler and together they have shared a marriage lasting 69 years. The family has resided in Highland Park, then Detroit and for over 50 years in the Plymouth area. Bill worked as a salesman for Beecher-Peck-Lewis Paper Products Company and also for Buster Brown Clothing retiring in the 1970's. Bill enjoyed his family most of all, being near and close meant the world to him. He also enjoyed things nautical, anything regarding the Navy and lighthouses pleased him. Traveling with the family was of special interest. He had been a member of Mason's Lodge # 468 of Highland Park. Bill is survived by his wife and son Donald ( Susan ) McVittie and daughter Dori-Ellen McVittie. Also surviving are his grandchildren Dennis ( Lindsey ) McVittie and Tyler McVittie; great grandson Cameron McVittie along with nieces and nephews. Bill was preceded in death by his son Dennis and his siblings June, Robert, James and Gerald. Services will be private.
