Ruth A. Burr

July 11, 1929 — November 15, 2011

Ruth A. Burr passed away November 15, 2011, at the age of 82. She is deeply loved and will be greatly missed by her husband, Sanford. She is the beloved mother of Robert Burr and Charles Burr. Ruth is the daughter of the late Robert and Mildred (Clark) Hollowell and the sister of the late Robert Hollowell. She is the dear sister-in-law of Margaret and Brian Kidston. Dear aunt of Sue (David) Jensen and Katherine (Paul) Renberg. Also survived by 6 great nieces and nephews.

Ruth was born and raised in Ypsilanti, where she owned a horse named Molly. She moved to Plymouth in 1953. Ruth met her husband to be while attending Albion College, and later married Sanford Burr in 1951.She taught for a year in Skokie, Ilinois, and then returned to teaching and earned her Masters Degree from Eastern Michigan University, after her boys graduated from high school. She was teaching at West Middle School at the time of her retirement. Ruth was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Plymouth, where she sang for many years in the choir. She was very active at the Plymouth Historical Museum. She especially loved the school program there. She was a very accomplished story teller and loved spoonerisms. Ruth was a wonderful homemaker and especially loved spending time with her family.

Funeral Services will take place Monday 11AM, November 21, 2011, at the First United Methodist Church of Plymouth, 45201 N. Territorial Rd., Plymouth. Friends may visit at church beginning at 10AM and at Schrader-Howell Funeral Home, 280 S. Main St., Plymouth, Sunday from 1PM until 8PM. Memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church of Plymouth Choir, or to the Plymouth Historical Museum.
