Richard Douglas Lustig

Richard Lustig passed away at Providence Park Hospital in Novi on November 17, 2013 at the age of 77. Richard was born on July 14, 1936 in Grand Rapids, Michigan, the son of Carl and Ida ( Hill ) Lustig. He graduated from Mackenzie High School in Detroit and was a member of the National Guard. For twelve years he served as a patrol officer with the Detroit Police Department in the Vernor, 2nd Precinct then for the balance of his career with the Mounted Division. After his retirement he worked as a security officer with Providence Hospital in Southfield and also at the Palace of Auburn Hills. Richard had many interests including camping with his family, enjoying sites in Traverse City and also at Burt Lake. He also enjoyed golfing, traveling and going on cruises and hunting. Richard had a fun loving, jokester personality, a person who enjoyed life to its upmost. He is survived by his childhood sweetheart and loving wife, Hazel ( nee Wells ) and their children Cindy ( Kenneth ) Henderson and Scott ( Melora ) Lustig, and his grandchildren Emma and Zachary Lustig. He was preceded in death by his son Brett and siblings, Dorothy Dombroski, James and Robert Lustig. A Memorial Gathering will be held at the Schrader-Howell Funeral Home, 280 South Main Street, Plymouth on Tuesday, November 19, 2013 from 12 noon until 8 pm. A Memorial Service will be conducted at his church, Mt. Hope Congregational Church, 30330 Schoolcraft, Livonia on Wednesday at 11 am. Contributions are suggested to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.
