Peter David Pollack

August 26, 1946 — December 8, 2012

Passed away at St. Mary Mercy Hospital in Livonia on December 8, 2012 at the age of 66. Following his military service in the United States Marine Corps which included a thirteen month tour of duty in Vietnam, Peter returned to Michigan and started college completing degrees from Wayne State University, the University of Detroit and the University of Michigan. Peter had a rewarding forty year career as a clinical social worker that culminated in a successful private practice in Plymouth where he was able to work close to home, set his own hours and share an office with his son Tyler. His work had a lasting and positive impact on countless individuals and families in the community. Peter was an avid walker, a music lover and enjoyed caring for many special dogs over the years. He was a long time Plymouth resident and felt strongly about supporting local businesses. He could be seen every day of the week walking his dog downtown. He enjoyed spending time outdoors, especially in hot weather and took pride in maintaining his home and yard. He also loved sports cars, watching football and chocolate. Above all, Peter loved spending time with his wife Shirley of 43 years, their children and their children's families. The family enjoyed many vacations, including a memorable cruise in 2008. Mostly they enjoyed spending time together doing everyday things like barbecues, taking walks, watching the grand kids play and party of ten dinners at Buddy's. Peter was famous with his grandkids for walks to " the bumpy road playground " and trips for ice cream. Peter is survived by his wife Shirley, children Amy ( Patrick ) Ross and Tyler ( Trisha ) Pollack. Also surviving are grandchildren Zachary and Rachel Ross and Miles and Maddox Pollack. He was the beloved son of the late Ernst and Charlotte Pollack. A memorial visitation will be held on Saturday, December 15, 2012 from 2 pm until time of the memorial service at 4 pm at the Schrader-Howell Funeral Home, 280 South Main Street, Plymouth. Contributions are suggested to the Michigan Humane Society or the American Heart Association.
