Martha Mary Detrich

July 16, 1938 — March 31, 2020

Martha Mary Detrich (née Brown), age 81 of Plymouth, passed away on March 31, 2020. Born in Sandusky, Ohio to loving parents Leo and Martha Brown. Loving wife of 60 years to the late Samuel C. Detrich. Loving sister of Celeste Schlict and the late Leo A. Brown and Carl J. Brown. Devoted mother to Patti (Jeff) Barszcz, Karen Gearns and Brian Detrich. Proud grandmother of Kyle (Erica) Gearns, Maggie Gearns, Jimmy Gearns, Bryan Quinlan, Kelly Quinlan, Ryan Barszcz, Ryan Detrich, Taylor Detrich, Christopher Detrich and Mikayla Detrich. Great grandmother of Landon Detrich and Henry Gearns.

Martha was a 1956 graduate of St. Mary’s High School in Sandusky, Ohio. After high school, she went to work at Mark’s Pic N’ Pay where she was awarded Checker of the Year. She later worked as an optician for Dr. Raymond Dick. Martha and Sam were married in 1959 and started a family in 1963. At that time, Martha became a homemaker and full-time mom. She was a great cook and talented seamstress. She enjoyed collecting and refinishing antique furniture, collecting Hall’s china and depression ware dishes, and she and Sam tried their hand at wine making when they moved to Plymouth in 1973. She was a former member of the OLGC Altar Guild and current member of St. Kenneth Catholic Church. Martha volunteered at Focus Hope, Paws for a Cause, Special Olympics and other events through the Plymouth-Canton Civitan Club where Sam was a member.

Burial will be at Great Lakes National Cemetery. A Memorial Gathering at the Schrader-Howell Funeral Home and a Memorial Mass at St. Kenneth Catholic Church in Plymouth will be celebrated in her honor at a later date following the COVID-19 restrictions.

Please be advised that in observance of the governmental order from the State of Michigan, we will be limiting funeral/visitation gatherings to 10 people at any one time.
