Obituary for Kenneth Ray Groom

Kenneth Ray Groom, age 74 of Westland passed away on November 15, 2020.

Kenneth was born in Parsons, Kansas on April 9, 1946 to his parents, Delbert and Freda (née Foreman) Groom. He is the loving and devoted father of two children – Benjamin (Ashley Barber) Groom and Kara Groom; proud grandfather of Harvey Groom and Molly Groom. He is deeply loved and will be greatly missed by his brother and sister-in-law Don and Dawn Groom.

Kenneth proudly served his country during the Viet Nam war in the United States Air Force as part of the 821st CSPS, which included serving in Operation Safeside. He was a part of a unique, specialized combat security police force capable of repelling raids by experienced enemy sapper units.

After his military service, Kenneth enjoyed a very successful career with DTE Energy and retired from his position as a Combustion Turbine Specialist.

Ken had a very keen interest in airplanes and aviation, and he was an active member of the Yankee Air Museum. One of his favorite local attractions was The Henry Ford Museum and Greenfield Village in Dearborn. Ken was also an avid Detroit Tigers Fan.

A private Memorial Gathering and Service will take place at the Schrader-Howell Funeral Home, 280 South Main Street, Plymouth on Friday, November 20, 2020, that will be officiated by the Reverend Drex Morton. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic this will be a private event. When the threat of the pandemic is behind us, a gathering will be planned where we can all honor and celebrate his life.
