Joseph A. Trinkwalder

October 15, 1915 — July 5, 2014

Passed away at Angela Hospice in Livonia on Saturday, July 5, 2014 after a brief illness, age 98. Joe was born in Detroit the son of John H. and Edna Mary ( nee Robertson ) Trinkwalder. He graduated from Catholic Central in 1933 and began to work at Chrysler's, first as a mail clerk then through a 43 year career. He retired as a Methods Analyst in 1981. Joe took leave of Chrysler's when he was drafted into the United States Army in 1941. He worked in medical supply while stationed in the European Theater of Operations. After the war ended, he rejoined Chrysler's, but when the Korean Conflict erupted, he went back into the Army and was finally discharge at the rank of Captain. It was while serving in France during the war that he met his future wife, Mildred, who was an Army Nurse. They married in 1948. Mildred preceded Joe in death in 1991. For a short time, the family resided in Texas, but after his final discharge from the service, the family resided in Redford. Joe loved playing golf and traveling, especially to Arizona. As his son Tom stated, he always "looked on the bright side of life" and "had a smile and a happy story for anyone he met." Joe is survived by his children, Tom Trinkwalder and Terry ( Bruce ) Perrell. He also leaves behind his grandchildren, Kelsey ( Greg ) Samborski, Joe and Sean Sassaman, Elizabeth ( Colby ) Renner and, Rachel ( fiancé Brian Henrickson ), great grandchildren Vincent Samborski and Violet Renner and sister Dorothy Pendracki. He was preceded in death by two of his children, Bob Trinkwalder and Carol Graves, a daughter-in-law, Caroline Trinkwalder and siblings Mary, John, Carl, Bobby and Margaret. Visitation will be held at the Schrader-Howell Funeral Home, 280 South Main Street, Plymouth on Wednesday from 3 pm until 9 pm. A scripture service will be held at 7 pm. Visitation will continue on Thursday from 10 am until time of the funeral mass at 10:30 am at St. Kenneth Catholic Church, 14951 Haggerty Road, Plymouth with Father Thomas Belczak officiating. Later, he will be laid to rest beside his wife at Riverside Cemetery in Plymouth. Contributions are suggested to the Capuchin Food Kitchen, the American Cancer Society or Angela Hospice.
