Obituary for James A. Coburn

James Andrew Coburn of Canton, Michigan died May 10, 2019. He was 70 years old. Jim was born in Toledo, Ohio the second son of Bruce and Elizabeth (nee Porter) Coburn. Jim was the beloved husband of Linda Coburn for 47 wonderful years of marriage. Jim is also survived by his loving sons Andrew (Tammie) Coburn, and Eric Coburn, his precious grandchildren Paris, Ireland, Ava and Grace, and his dear sister Elizabeth Wells. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brothers John and Thomas Coburn.

Jim was a tremendous athlete and after graduating from Maumee High School Jim went on to THE Ohio State University on a full football scholarship. He was a two time National Champion in 1968 and 1970, and was also the captain for the Buckeyes wrestling team. After receiving his bachelor’s degree, Jim went on to work with many of the various auto suppliers as an account executive. In his free time, he enjoyed painting and woodworking. Jim was also a man of great faith and was a longtime member at St.John Neumann Catholic Church. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

Visitation will be Monday, May 13, from 2-8pm at the Schrader-Howell Funeral Home, 280 S. Main St., Plymouth, MI 48170. Deacon Pat Conlen will lead the Scripture Service beginning at 7pm. His Funeral Mass will be Tuesday, May 14, at 11am at St. John Neumann Catholic Church, 44800 Warren Rd., Canton, MI 48187. The Reverend Fr. Mark Livingston will celebrate the Mass of the Resurrection. Jim will be in state at the church at 10:30am. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to American Cancer Society or to St. John Neumann.
