Gerald Cooper

June 28, 1920 — December 6, 2013

Gerald “Jerry” Cooper, age 93 of Plymouth, passed away on December 6, 2013. Loving husband of 71 years to his beloved Ernestine, his high school sweetheart. Devoted father of James (Sharon) Cooper. Proud grandfather of Lainie (Jason) Gardner and Colleen (Matthew) Kunka. Great grandfather of Dane, J.J., and Presley Gardner. Jerry graduated from Plymouth High School in 1938, and served his country in the United States Army during WWII. After his discharge from the Army as a Staff Sergeant, Jerry worked as an x-ray technician and a computer programmer for the government. He also was a cub scout leader for many years. Jerry and Ernestine retired to Roscommon, MI, where he was a lifetime member of the VFW, post 4159. He was very involved with the VFW, and could often be found calling bingo on Monday nights, or cooking in the kitchen at the monthly all-you-can-eat breakfast. Jerry enjoyed golf, fishing, and his many friends, and most importantly, he loved his family dearly. His later years brought him back to Belleville, MI where he was able to spend more time with his family. He also was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Belleville. He was great at telling stories, be it recent events or tales from the “old days”. He was a great listener as well, and was always able to offer good advice. Friends may join the family on Tuesday, December 10, 2013 at the Schrader-Howell Funeral Home 280 South Main St. Plymouth beginning at 9:30 am until the time of the funeral service at 11:30am. Mr. Cooper will be buried and receive full military honors at Riverside Cemetery in Plymouth. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you consider making a donation to the Food Closet, at the First United Methodist Church of Belleville.
