Garrett E. Kerstens

Garrett E. Kerstens, age 70 of Plymouth, passed away on December 4, 2020.
He was born in Detroit, Michigan on July 5, 1950 to his parents, Edward and Helen (née Gouin).

Gary is the beloved and devoted husband of Lucy (née Plater) Kerstens; loving father of two children – Wesley (Amanda) Kerstens and Kay (Gabe) Kerstens; step-father of Jessica (Josh) Scroggs and Lindsay (Ahmad) El’Atrache; proud grandfather of Lucas and Leo; and step-grandfather to Taylor, Parker, Paxton, Porter, Eliana, Eiley and Everly; He is deeply loved and will be greatly missed by his sister and brother, Adrianna Hunt and Martin (Elizabeth) Kerstens and his nieces, Susan (Chester) Blaszko, Shannon (Clayton) Keegan and Margaret Smith. He is pre-deceased by his wife, Elizabeth Kerstens.

Gary was a proud member of the Plymouth Lions Club and also the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks of Plymouth.

Friends may visit the Schrader-Howell Funeral Home, 280 South Main Street, Plymouth on Friday, December 11, 2020 from 4:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. A Memorial Service will be held at 6:30 PM at the Funeral Home.

For those who cannot attend and wish to view the Funeral Service in a safe environment, the funeral will be live-streamed.


As of November 18, 2020, we are permitted to have no more than 25 people in attendance for visitations and funerals. Please be advised that in observance of the Governmental Order from the State of Michigan and the current COVID-19 situation, when in attendance at the visitation and funeral service, we kindly ask for the safety and well-being of the families we serve, and for your health, that everyone practice social distancing and consideration for other guests in attendance. Masks are mandatory. Please refrain from handshaking and embracing family members and one another.

Those who wish to honor the memory of Garrett E. Kerstens are invited to consider a contribution to Penrickton Center for Blind Children, 26530 Eureka Road, Taylor, Michigan 48180 and Leader Dogs for the Blind, 1039 South Rochester Road, Rochester Hills, Michigan 48307.

Contribution envelopes will be available at the Funeral Home.
