Elma Jean Bonk

August 29, 1926 — August 19, 2017

Passed away at Crystal Creek Assisted Living in Canton Township on Saturday, August 19, 2017 at the age of 91. She was born on January 29, 1926 in the coal mining county of Mercer in Pennsylvania .

She finished her schooling there and about 70 years ago, she came to Michigan to help her sister. She met her future husband, John Bonk. After his service in World War II, they married in 1946. John passed away in 1978. From 1954 until her retirement in 1983, Jean worked for General Motors at the transmission plant at Willow Run. She loved being a homemaker, wife, mother and grandmother. It was the joy of her life being with her family.

She is survived by her children, Margaret Ann ( Leo ) Wilson and Kathleen Lemkie. Also surviving are her grandchildren, Wendy ( Scott ) Barrett, Michael Neil, Brian ( Shawn ) Lemkie, Kelly ( Randy ) Conway and Leo ( Jessica ) Wilson and her beloved great grandchildren, Austin, Cody, Shelby, Chas and Lily. Jean was one of eleven children and she was the last to pass on.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 3 pm until 8 pm at the Schrader-Howell Funeral Home, 280 South Main Street, Plymouth where funeral services will be conducted on Thursday at 11 am with Father Thomas Belczak officiating.

Jean will be laid to rest beside her husband at Knollwood Cemetery in Canton Township.
