Ellen T. Mathews passed away at Port Huron Hospital on Thursday morning, May 17, 2012 at the age of 86. Ellen was born in Detroit on October 17, 1925 the daughter of Henry and Ann ( Markey ) Brennan the sixth of seven children. Her early life was spent in Detroit where she attended Sacred Heart School and later earned her Bachelor of Arts from Marygrove College. She meet her husband William in Detroit and they were married in 1946. The couple lived in Ann Arbor, Detroit and for over 25 years in Farmington before coming to Plymouth. While in Farmington, Ellen was active in the Friends of the Farmington Library and was instrumental in the building of a new library there. She also volunteered at the DIA and loved to play golf at which she won several tournments. Yet her greatest joy was the life she spent with her husband, her two daughters and their families and the host of friends she had. Her husband William passed away in 1996 and Ellen is survived by her daughters, Marianna ( Brian ) Kulpa and Meghan Mathews. She is also survvied by her grandchildren Mathew ( Jennifer ) Keenan, Catie ( Steve ) Weber, Micaela, Ella and Wm Schuyler Dodson, a great granddaughter Megan Keenan and sisters Ann ( the late William ) Grier and Sister Margaret Brennan IHM. A Memorial Gathering will be held at the Schrader-Howell Funeral Home, 280 South Main Street, Plymouth, Monday from 2pm until 9pm. Visitation will continue on Tuesday at St. James Catholic Church, 46325 West Ten Mile Rd., Novi, 10am until time of the Memorial Mass at 10:30am.
