Dolores Ann Simonds

October 6, 1922 — February 8, 2015

Delores Ann Simonds passed away at St. Mary Mercy Hospital in Livonia on Sunday, February 8, 2015 at the age of 92. Dolores was born in Taylor Township on October 6, 1922 the daughter of Wilbur Lee and Nellie Johnson. She was the oldest of five children. She had one sister, Betty and three brother, Ray, Wilbur and Donald. Dolores has seen a lot in her lifetime. She lived through the depression during which time her parent's lost their farm on Powell Road, but they were always provided for. Dolores graduated from Plymouth High School and during World War II she worked at the Willow Run Bomber Plant in Ypsilanti. Dolores married Howard Simonds on August 26, 1950 in Bowling Green, Ohio and together they shared a marriage of 58 years, Howard passing away in 2008. Even though she was ornery at times, Dolores was a loving person. There aren't many people that would let their children's friends move into their home and treat them as one of their own. Dolores was the head of the house but always put her children first When the kids were young, their father was a truck driver and would be gone for weeks at a time. He would come home for a few hours and try to help out by mowing the lawn, and it never failed that he would end up mowing down some of the flowers and this of course never went well with Dolores. Over the years she quite often talked about missing her mother and quite ironically some of her last words were calling out for her mother's help. Dolores is survived by her children Carol ( Bob ) Burnison, Dennis Simonds and Diana ( John ) Skrobe and son-in-law Jim Jensen. Also surviving are her grandchildren, Jamie ( Mary ) Jensen, Jeff Jensen, John ( Tina ) Jensen, Amber Mida, Erik Mida, John Wilkins and Kristy Meterko and her great grandchildren Courtney and Jordyn Meterko, Jillian, Brenden, Megan, Samantha, Jevin and Harper Jensen. She was preceded in death by her daughter Jackie Jensen, sister Betty Wise and brothers Donald, Wilbur and Raymond Johnson. Visitation will be held on Thursday from 2 pm until 9 pm at the Schrader-Howell Funeral Home where funeral services will be held on Friday at 11 am with Father Thomas Belczak officiating. Contributions are suggested to the Humane Society of Huron Valley.
