Dennis N. Elder

Dennis Neil Elder, age 78, passed away July 6, 2016. Dennis grew up in Petersburg, MI. He raised his children in Michigan, then retired to Spring Hill, FL in 2002. He returned home to Michigan in July 2016. He was a U.S. Army veteran, retired Chemist, and member of the Unity Church. Dennis loved fishing, baseball, bird watching, gardening and his canine companion, Shadow. He is survived by three children, Craig Elder (Laura), Shannon Elder-Alvarez (Andre), and Kimberly Willis (Tom); two sisters, Nancy Harris and Rosemary Luce; four grandchildren, Seth and Aiden Alvarez, and Nolan and Annika Elder, and many friends and family who loved him dearly. Dennis was pre-deceased by his brother, Blair Elder; his parents, Stanley Alfred Elder and Florence Mabel Huston, and his wife of 41 years, Maryjo Elder. A gathering for family and friends will start at 10:30 am, followed by a Celebration of Life Memorial, Tuesday, July 12, 12:00 noon, Schrader-Howell Funeral Home, 280 S. Main St., Plymouth, MI 48170. Dennis will also be honored and put to rest, along with his wife Maryjo, in a U.S. military funeral service on Wed, July 13, 1:30 pm (arrival by 1:00), Great Lakes National Cemetery, 4200 Belford Rd, Holly, MI 48442. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Dennis' honor to the Holy Ground Homeless Shelter, 8835 Denton Avenue, Hudson, Fl 34667.
