Catherine E. Stewart, 103, of Westland, passed away peacefully on November 10, 2020 at Heartland Health in Canton, MI.
Catherine was born in Minden City, on March 13, 1917 to the late William and Margaret (Oswald) Heilig. She was one of 21 children.
In her younger years she was a head cashier at Danny's Foods, something she was very proud of and talked of often. In her later years she enjoyed cooking, watching the Detroit Tigers and spending time with her family.
Catherine is survived by her grandchildren, Beth Thumm, Stacey (Steve) Thumm, Michael Thumm; great granddaughter, Danielle (Nico) DeLuca; siblings, Beatrice Drake, Wilfred Heilig, Gerald Heilig, Jeanette Heilig, and Lucille Hintz; and many nieces and nephews.
Catherine is preceded in death by her beloved daughter, Janice Thumm; son-in-law, William Thumm; husband, James Stewart; and siblings Paul, Nona, Clarence, Marcus, Gertrude, Ralph, Genevieve, Bernard, Benjamin, Margaret, William, Winifred, Harold, Regina and Nicholas.
Per her wishes, cremation has taken place and a formal memorial will not be held. Family and friends will be welcome to a celebration of life but at this time the date is postponed.
The family would like to thank the wonderful staff at Heartland Health Center for their excellent care during Catherine’s last weeks.
