Catherine "Cathy" Marie Richardson

Catherine Marie Richardson, age 70 of Plymouth passed away on December 7, 2021. She was born on June 24, 1951 to her parents, Helen India (née Smith) and Richard Maurice Phelps.

Catherine is the beloved and devoted wife of Michael Richardson; loving mother of Scott (Sarah) Richardson and Jeremy (Susan) Richardson; proud grandmother of Joshua, Calyssa, Conner and Coen. She is survived by her brothers Richard Phelps of Westland and Michael Phelps of Illinois. She is pre-deceased by her sisters, Christine and Charlotte.

Catherine was a registered nurse. She graduated from the nursing program at Schoolcraft College, specializing in hospice care. After the death of her mother, Catherine felt it was her calling to provide a loving and caring environment to hospice residents. She worked at Angela Hospice in Livonia where it was her goal to attend to the emotional and spiritual needs of her patients. She said “it was the work God called her to do” …and she loved doing it.

Catherine’s favorite activities included traveling in the family RV, riding her motorcycle and spending time at the Henry Ford/Greenfield Village. Whether it was two wheels on the open road or four wheeled ‘glamping’, she was never one to sit and let life pass her by. Several years ago, while enjoying a solo ride on her low-rider, she was struck by a minivan. Although her injuries were severe and it would take years to fully recover, she was quick to forgive the driver because “that’s what God would want me to do”! She was full of love and always willing to share it.

Catherine was a wise, humble and loving person. She would give anything to those in need and comfort/counsel those who were lost and needed an ear. She truly had charity – the pure love of Christ.

A Memorial Gathering will be held on Saturday, April 23, 2022 from 2:00 P.M. until 6:00 P.M.at the Schrader-Howell Funeral Home, 280 South Main Street, Plymouth.
