Obituary for Carole F. Sweet

Carole F. Sweet, age 85 of Plymouth passed away on December 1, 2019.

Carole has been the beloved and devoted wife of Jerry Sweet since January 22, 1955; loving mother of two children, Doug (Kathy) Sweet and Greg (Laurie) Sweet; proud grandmother of Brian Sweet, Eric Sweet, Stephen (Aimee) Demsky and Olivia Bullock and great-grandmother of Ridley. She is deeply loved and will be greatly missed by her sister, Jackie Desiderio.

Carole was a devoted mother to her two sons. While still raising her boys at home, she studied hard and earned a Bachelor's degree in Teaching from Eastern Michigan University. If you were a student at Gallimore Elementary School in Plymouth, you may have known Carole. Anyone who was a student of Carole’s knew her to be a great teacher. She began teaching in the 1970s until 1994. She taught 5th Graders and loved her profession. She believed teaching provided her the privilege to be a part of the lives of so many young people. Teaching isn’t easy. She put endless hours into grading papers, helping students, and making sure every one of them received the best education possible. Her own love of learning inspired her students and she provided to them the highest quality of education possible. She especially loved organizing the Gallimore school musicals. There is a saying, “if you do what you love, you’ll never work a day in your life.” Carole was the perfect example of that statement. All who knew Carole would say she would have been a teacher and never accepted a paycheck. She truly loved and cherished her role in helping to shape the minds of young people in order to prepare them for their own bright future.

Carole was a long time, active member at First United Methodist Church in Plymouth. Her friends at the church knew her to be a very loving and kind woman and a faith-filled servant. She was a nurturer and loved her garden and watching things grow. She also enjoyed traveling. But, above all else, she loved her family and raised her children to be successful adults, who also enjoyed learning new things and being with those they love. This was her greatest accomplishment.

Friends may visit the First United Methodist Church, 45201 North Territorial Road, Plymouth on Thursday, December 5, 2019 from 10:00 A.M. until the funeral service beginning at 11:00 A.M.

Memorial contributions may be made in memory of Carole F. Sweet to The Educational Excellence Foundation, 454 South Harvey, Plymouth, Michigan 48170 and St. Joseph Mercy Ann Arbor Cancer Center, 5303 Elliott Drive, Ypsilanti, Michigan 48197.
